About Ballpark Engineering
Ballpark Engineering is a structural design firm based in Mountain Green, Utah, serving builders, developers, investors, and owners across the Mountain West. We deliver residential, commercial, hospitality, and forensic assessment work for clients who need fast, clear, code-fluent design they can actually build from.
We think like builders. We move like owners. We communicate like real people. Our clients hire us because we shoulder complexity so they don’t have to, and because we treat their time, capital, and trust like our own.
We are building the most agile, execution-focused structural design firm in the Mountain West. We invest heavily in proprietary tools and modern workflows that let a small team deliver the volume and quality of a much larger one. We are growing fast, and we are deliberate about who we bring on.
About the Role
This is the seat for an early-career engineer who is hungry, code-curious, and ready to build. You will work directly with our senior PE on residential, commercial, and tenant improvement projects across the Mountain West. You will own real production work from day one, with mentorship and clear technical direction from someone who actually wants you to grow.
We do not hire engineers straight from school. We hire engineers who already understand what holds a building up, through internships, drafting experience, time on construction sites, framing crews, concrete work, or genuine self-study of the code. If you have spent time around real buildings and you can hold a conversation about how they go together, we want to talk.
What You Will Actually Do
- Produce gravity and lateral calcs for residential and light commercial projects
- Build and check Revit and AutoCAD models against your calcs
- Draft and revise structural reports, condition assessments, and code compliance letters
- Participate in site visits across the Wasatch Front and Mountain West
- Bring questions, hypotheses, and recommendations into project meetings
- Grow toward stamp authority. After an onboarding period, PE candidates will be expected to stamp work, including EIT-produced work submitted to you for review.
Required Qualifications
- BS in Civil or Structural Engineering, or equivalent path with strong technical foundation
- EIT certification (FE passed). Active PE welcomed but not required.
- 3 to 9 years of engineering, construction, or closely related experience
- Working knowledge of IBC, IRC, ASCE 7, and at least one of NDS, ACI 318, AISC 360
- Genuine understanding of how residential and light commercial buildings are framed and built
- Clear written and verbal communication. Engineering judgment matters, but so does the ability to explain it.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active PE license (UT or other state). Compensation reflects this.
- Field experience: framing, concrete, general contracting, or structural inspections
- Working knowledge of Mountain West design conditions: high seismic, high snow loads, ice loads
- Comfort with rapidly evolving tools, workflows, and proprietary internal systems
- Multi-state license interest. As you grow, additional state PE applications are reimbursed and reflected in compensation.
- California PE, or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire (BPE reimburses fees on successful licensure)
Tools You Will Use Daily
- Analysis: RISA, RAM, SAP2000, EnerCalc, Forte
- Modeling and drafting: Revit, AutoCAD, occasional SketchUp
- Field capture: MagicPlan, SiteScape
- Project and document management: Asana, Egnyte, Bluebeam, Google Workspace
- Communication and client systems: Slack, Zoom, GHL
We invest in modern tools and proprietary internal systems that eliminate the manual grind from production work. You will be expected to use them, improve them, and help us build new ones.
You Will Thrive Here If You
- Take ownership of outcomes without being asked
- Communicate clearly and directly, in writing and in person
- Adapt fast when projects, codes, or priorities shift
- Care about systems and process, not just calcs
- Adopt new tools quickly and look for ways to make the team faster
- Take initiative instead of waiting to be told
- Thrive in fast-moving environments and protect your standards under pressure
- Align with how we operate as a firm and how we treat our clients, our team, and our craft
First 90 Days: What Success Looks Like
- Produce complete calc packages for residential and light commercial projects with limited revision
- Hold your own in design discussions with the senior PE
- Communicate clearly with clients and contractors on assigned projects
- Adopt BPE’s internal tools and templates fluently
Why Join Ballpark
- Real mentorship from a senior PE who is invested in your growth
- A clear path to PE licensure if you are still an EIT, and to stamp authority once licensed
- Modern tooling that lets you actually engineer instead of fight software
- A seat in a firm that is growing fast and rewards contribution
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary within the range listed above
- Performance bonus tied to billables, profitability, and measurable business contribution

- California PE licensure reimbursement on successful licensure. We cover application, NCEES exam, CA state-specific exams (Seismic and Engineering Surveying), fingerprinting, and issuance fees. Study courses and prep materials are the candidate’s responsibility.
- Multi-state licensure support. Additional state PE applications are reimbursed on successful licensure, and breadth of active licensure is reflected in compensation.
Our Values
These are the values we hire, fire, and promote against.
- Extreme Ownership. We don’t pass problems. We solve them. Every team member owns the outcome.
- Speed is a Value. We move with urgency and clarity. Deadlines are commitments, not suggestions.
- Clarity Over Complexity. We simplify the chaos so our clients don’t have to. Simplicity is mastery.
- Clear, Proactive Communication. We close loops early. We don’t wait to be asked. We don’t go dark.
- Build Like You Own It. We think like investors, not just engineers. We protect client capital like it’s our own.
- Honor the Trust. Trust is built slowly and lost fast. We protect it with integrity, always.
- Weapons-Grade Execution. We deliver with precision, on time, with no loose ends.
- Train Like a Pro, Think Like a Founder. Every role is leadership. Every person is expected to grow.
